CES 2025: A Glimpse into the Future Tech Innovation and Chinese Magic

CES 2025: A Glimpse into the Future Tech Innovation and Chinese Magic

The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 is set to take place in Las Vegas from January 7th to 10th, featuring over 4,500 exhibitors, including 1,400 startups. As a leading indicator of consumer electronics trends, CES showcased innovative products last year, such as the Rabbit smart hardware. This year, what new products can we expect?

Extensive research from the CES official website and international media reports reveals a growing focus on products tailored for children and families. AI-powered companion products for children are ubiquitous, and AI glasses, which began to emerge last year, are becoming even more popular. The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), the organizer of CES 2025, has released its technology trend predictions for 2025. The sales in the consumer electronics sector are expected to reach $537 billion, marking a 3.2% year-over-year growth. Hardware sales are projected to increase by 2.6% to $353 billion, while software and services sales are anticipated to grow by 4.6% to $1.84 trillion.

Brian Komisky, Senior Director at CTA, predicts that AI will have a highly positive impact on the consumer electronics market. "With AI integrated into smartphones, laptops, TVs, smart glasses, and cars, we may witness an upgrade cycle," he stated. CTA also highlighted the importance of smart homes, explaining, "80% of American consumers view smart homes as solutions for an aging population."

CES also featured educational technology products. For instance, TAL Education Group (TAL) participated in CES for the second consecutive year, showcasing the Xueersi Learning Machine equipped with an intelligent assistant and the Jiu Zhang large model. Many new hardware products at CES also demonstrate potential applications in educational settings.

01. Explosion of Companion-Type Small Robots

WalletFairy

Yukai Engineering, a Tokyo-based startup, introduced "Mirumi," a product dubbed the "Wallet Fairy." Mirumi is a fluffy little robot that can attach to a bag's handle or strap. This small robot features a rotating head but lacks voice interaction, instead "peeking" around. Mirumi's head movement is not random; it uses internal sensors to scan the surrounding environment and focuses on objects or people of interest.

Yukai Engineering explains that Mirumi was inspired by the joy of making eye contact with adorable babies in public spaces. Designed to mimic the cuteness of human infants, Mirumi aims to spread happiness. Shunsuke Aoki, CEO of Yukai Engineering, stated, "Mirumi allows you to share your joy with others. Whether you're on a crowded train or waiting in line at a checkout, Mirumi's innocent gaze will touch people's hearts, prompting them to wave or make amusing expressions in response. We're thrilled to showcase Mirumi at CES 2025, brightening everyone's day and demonstrating the ripple effect of shared happiness."

02. Increasing Number of Educational Technology Products

NetEase Youdao AI Dictionary Pen

Youdao is no stranger to CES, having participated multiple times previously. This year, Youdao introduced the latest AI Dictionary Pen X7 series, featuring an AI camera and equipped with two application functions powered by the "Ziyue" educational large model: AI All-subject Home Tutor Xiao P Teacher and Virtual Oral Tutor Hi Echo. Additionally, the pen offers offline large model translation and AI essay grading, among other personalized intelligent learning functions supported by AI capabilities.

In 2024, Youdao adjusted its strategy to focus on dictionary pens, enhancing them with large models and cameras. Zhou Feng recently shared with us, "I believe in all wearable scenarios. In recent years, several wearables have become breakout products, such as smartwatches, rings, and glasses."

03. AI Glasses Boom

Halliday

Halliday, China's first AI hardware company backed by Jiashanjiang Venture Capital's Gyges Labs and partnered with Shanghai contact lens company Moody, launched the world's first active AI display glasses. Named after a key character in "Ready Player One," these smart glasses weigh 35 grams and resemble traditional eyewear. However, they conceal advanced technology, including a Digi Window micro-display. During meetings, the AI assistant can answer questions, notify users, and automatically generate meeting minutes. A small display in the upper right corner of the user's vision shows information visible only to the user. Notably, these smart glasses offer 12 hours of usage on a single charge (with a standby time of 100 hours) and can be fully charged in one hour. Halliday is considered the most talked-about AI glasses brand at CES, often compared to Meta's Orion glasses by the media.

XREAL

Another prominent Chinese company, XREAL, garnered significant attention with the release of its XREAL One Pro AR glasses at CES 2025. The proprietary XREAL X1 spatial computing chip significantly enhances AR display capabilities. Native 3DoF (three degrees of freedom) allows the glasses to maintain stable display positioning in space without external terminals, regardless of head movements. The XREAL One Pro seamlessly connects with smart devices like MacBooks, PCs, iPads, iPhones, Nintendo Switches, and Android devices to project screens.

While AR glasses and AI glasses both fall under the smart glasses category, they differ significantly in technological principles, functional focus, hardware requirements, and application scenarios. AR glasses primarily leverage augmented reality technology to overlay virtual information onto the user's real-world view, enriching perception through advanced display technologies that present both static and dynamic virtual images. The current trend in smart glasses combines AI and AR, utilizing AI's image recognition and environmental understanding to enhance the immersive visual experiences and augmented reality effects.

2025 is poised to be the breakthrough year for AI glasses, heralding the era where glasses become the "next-generation computing platform."
